On December 20, 2023, Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa Dr. Maksym Subkh met with MP, Assistant to the Chairman of the Assembly of People’s Representatives (Parliament) of the Republic of Tunisia for International Relations, Tunisian Diaspora and Migration Dr. Tayib Ezzeddine.
During the meeting, the parties discussed ways to maintain and further develop cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Tunisia in political, trade, economic, and educational spheres.
The Special Representative expressed gratitude to the Tunisian side for its strong support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine during the voting on the relevant UN General Assembly resolutions.
Maksym Subkh called on the Assembly of People's Representatives of the Republic of Tunisia to join many other countries and recognize the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.
The Special Representative expressed hope for the prompt establishment of a group on inter-parliamentary relations with Ukraine in the newly elected Tunisian parliament. The corresponding group in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine exists since March 2021.
Maksym Subkh invited Tunisia to join the promotion and support of the Peace Formula of President of Ukraine H.E. Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He emphasized the need to restore the operation of the Black Sea Grain Corridor, through which over 600,000 tons of agricultural products were shipped to Tunisia in 2022-2023.
The Ukrainian diplomat also called on Tunisia to support and join the "Grain from Ukraine" initiative launched by the President of Ukraine, which aims to increase food supplies to African and Asian countries as well as to ensure global food security.
