On June 22–23, Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa Maksym Subkh paid a working visit to Berlin.
During the visit, he negotiated with the top officials responsible for shaping Germany’s policy on the African continent: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Federal Chancellor, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and the Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection.
Maksym Subkh informed the German counterparts about the interaction of Ukraine with the countries of the African region, the results of the tour of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to African countries, and the recent visit of the delegation of African leaders to Kyiv. He confirmed plans to increase Ukraine's presence on the African continent by opening new embassies.
The sides exchanged views on the further implementation of the humanitarian initiative "Grain from Ukraine", cooperation in development projects in Africa, and countering Russian disinformation. German partners demonstrated a high level of solidarity with Ukraine and readiness to implement joint projects to strengthen relations with the African continent and overcome the food crisis.
Maxim Subkh also met with the heads of the embassies of Mauritius, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tunisia, Lesotho, Burkina Faso, and Morocco. The sides discussed the Peace Formula of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in detail and possible joint steps to implement its provisions. In addition, they exchanged views on the formats of long-term bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as support for Ukraine’s initiatives within the framework of the UN and other international organizations.
The final element of the trip to Berlin was the visit of the Ukrainian diplomat to the Center of German NGOs "Gemeinsam für Afrika", which focuses on humanitarian and educational campaigns in Africa. The Center operates under the personal patronage of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
