On March 22, Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa Maksym Subkh took part in the official opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Uzhgorod with consular district covering territories of Zakarpattia, Lviv and Rivne oblasts.
The event was also attended by a delegation of high-ranking representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Francophonie of the DRC, which arrived in Uzhgorod on this occasion.
In a separate meeting of the Ukrainian diplomat with the General Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of the DRC Theophilus Wabenga Kalebo there were discussed the prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, as well as interaction within the framework of international organizations.
Maksym Subkh expressed his gratitude to the Congolese side for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The Special Representative briefed interlocutor about the preparation for the Global Peace Summit and expressed the hope that the Head of the Congolese state would participate in the event.
In addition, the Special Representative had a working meeting with the leadership of the Zakarpattia Oblast State Administration and the Zakarpattia Oblast Council, and also met with students of the Uzhhorod National University.
“Ukraine makes consistent efforts to intensify relations with the African continent. Upon the instructions of the President of Ukraine, diplomatic institutions of Ukraine in a number of African countries, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will be established in the near future”, - stressed Maksym Subkh.
For reference: measures to intensify relations and expand the presence on the African continent take place to implement the agreements reached during the tour of Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba, which he carried out during 2022-2024. In particular, the Minister made four tours to the countries of the African continent, visiting Senegal, Cote-d’Ivoire, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Mozambique, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Morocco and Republic of South Africa.
