On March 11, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mishchenko held the second round of political consultations with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Marek Prawda, during which a wide range of issues of bilateral relations, regional security, and other relevant areas of cooperation were discussed.
Olexandr Mishchenko thanked Poland for its principled and unwavering position on supporting Ukraine and expressed hope for continued defence support and increasing its volume, as well as preserving the unity of Europe in stopping Russian aggression. The Deputy Minister also discussed with his Polish colleague continuing pressure on Russia, paying important attention to the need to achieve a just peace for Ukraine.
The parties exchanged views on key elements on the path to peace: security guarantees, conditions under which a ceasefire would be possible, and the maintenance of sanctions against the Russian Federation. In this context, the expected results of the meeting of the Ukrainian and American delegations in Saudi Arabia were noted, as well as the importance of continuing the dialogue with other European partners, in particular in the expanded Weimar format. Olexandr Mishchenko emphasized that for Ukraine, the issues of potential negotiations on ending the war, security guarantees, and Ukraine’s NATO membership are related.
The Polish side confirmed that comprehensive support of Ukraine, as well as Ukraine's early accession to the EU and NATO, is in Poland's national interest. Assurances were expressed of the readiness of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU and Polish experts to provide maximum assistance to the Ukrainian government in the negotiation process with the European Union, in particular in the context of opening several negotiation clusters in the first half of 2025, and finding the necessary consensus among EU members.
In this regard, Olexandr Mishchenko particularly noted the importance of the first visit to Ukraine of the Polish High-Level Advisory Group on Ukraine (PHLAG), which is taking place on March 11-12 and includes a number of expert meetings with representatives of Ukrainian government bodies.
