Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko held another meeting with heads and representatives of embassies from nine countries — Greece, Belgium, Türkiye, Romania, Germany, Italy, Estonia, Lithuania, and Austria — which support the implementation of the “Radiation and Nuclear Safety” point of the Peace Formula. In total, 26 countries worldwide support the implementation of this point of the Peace Formula.
During the meeting, the parties thoroughly discussed the situation around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, including attempts by the Russian Federation to impose on Ukraine, the IAEA, and the international community, through blackmail, intimidation, and manipulation, the perception of the rotation of Agency experts at the Zaporizhzhia NPP via temporarily occupied territories as a done deal. The Ukrainian side emphasized the categorical unacceptability of such actions and called on partners, in cooperation with the IAEA, to take measures to prevent attempts to legitimize Russian control over the Zaporizhzhia NPP and its integration into the Russian energy system.
The deputy minister stressed that the Zaporizhzhia NPP is Ukrainian territory that must be deoccupied, and any actions by the Russian occupation administration on its territory are illegal. Thanks to the presence of IAEA experts at the plant, it is currently possible to monitor basic safety parameters; however, Ukraine expresses serious concern about Russia’s intentions to use the situation around the Zaporizhzhia NPP as a tool for political pressure and blackmail of the international community.
Special attention was given to the issue of releasing the Zaporizhzhia NPP workers illegally detained by Russia, who have become hostages of the occupation administration. Olexandr Mischenko emphasized the need to increase international pressure to ensure their immediate release and guarantee respect for international humanitarian law in the temporarily occupied territories.
The parties emphasized the importance of strengthening international coordination to restore Ukraine’s sovereign control over the Zaporizhzhia NPP and to prevent further threats to global nuclear safety caused by its illegal occupation by the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
Possible ways to achieve a just and lasting peace through strengthening international solidarity among partner states in opposing Russian aggression against Ukraine were also discussed.
