On 2 July, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko held a meeting with Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Ukraine Toýly Ataýew.
The parties discussed the outcomes of Olexandr Mischenko’s recent working visit to Turkmenistan, as well as further steps to implement the agreements reached during his meetings with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Gurbanov, as well as during talks with Mayor of Ashgabat Rahym Gandymov and Minister of Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan Abdulla Geldiyev.
The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for the proper organisation of the Ukrainian delegation’s visit to Ashgabat and for holding a series of substantive talks.
Olexandr Mischenko gratefully noted Turkmenistan’s consistent position in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasised that Ukraine regards Turkmenistan as an important partner, both bilaterally and within the framework of Central Asia–Ukraine cooperation, and is interested in developing mutually beneficial cooperation and bilateral relations based on mutual respect for shared interests.
The parties noted the importance of intensifying political dialogue, in particular through the preparation of upcoming high-level visits between Ukraine and Turkmenistan and their substantive content.
The meeting also focused on trade and economic cooperation, the expansion of contacts between entrepreneurs of the two countries, the participation of Ukrainian companies in large-scale projects in Turkmenistan, and the resumption of the activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Turkmen Commission on Economic, Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation.
Olexandr Mischenko reaffirmed Ukraine’s interest in developing transport and logistics cooperation with Turkmenistan, in particular by making use of the opportunities offered by regional routes. The Turkmen side was invited to take part in upcoming specialised events involving government agencies and businesses from the countries of the region.
During the meeting, the parties also considered opportunities for implementing joint initiatives in the fields of education, student training, and the professional development of diplomatic personnel.
