On 1 February, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko, during his visit to Warsaw, met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Jong Yong Du, who was in the Polish capital to participate in political consultations with the Polish side.
The parties exchanged views on the state and prospects of Ukrainian-Korean relations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining active dialogue at the highest and high levels, and discussed in detail ways to enhance practical cooperation in economic and humanitarian spheres.
The diplomats noted that the strengthening of military and military-technical cooperation between Russia and North Korea represents a shared challenge for Ukraine and the Republic of Korea, requiring closer security coordination.
Olexandr Mischenko expressed sincere gratitude to the Republic of Korea for its consistent financial and humanitarian support for Ukraine. He noted that the total assistance provided by the South Korean government from 2022 to 2025 exceeds USD 550 million, including USD 450 million in 2022-2024 and USD 100 million in 2025. This support encompasses both contributions through international organizations and the delivery of equipment for humanitarian demining, engineering, and medical purposes.
The parties also highlighted South Korea’s contribution to the President of Ukraine’s humanitarian initiative “Grain from Ukraine”, under which the Korean side provided USD 15 million, and emphasized the importance of continued support for food security and reconstruction programs in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian diplomat called for increased participation of Korean companies in Ukraine’s reconstruction and implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly within the framework of the Framework Agreement between the Governments of Ukraine and the Republic of Korea on the engagement of Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) loans for 2024-2029.
The parties also stressed the importance of actively leveraging South Korea’s technological potential in the reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy sector, which continues to be subject to Russian attacks.
