On 2 February, as part of his working visit to the Republic of Poland, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko held a meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Marcin Bosacki and conducted working contacts with the Ukrainian community and volunteer initiatives in Warsaw.
During the meeting with Marcin Bosacki, the parties discussed the security and humanitarian situation in Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing armed aggression, with particular focus on the critical state of energy and water supply in Ukrainian cities. The Ukrainian side emphasized that, as of early 2026, systematic Russian attacks on critical infrastructure have resulted in the loss of over 10 GW of generating capacity, with more than 80% of thermal generation damaged or destroyed and approximately 40% of hydroelectric capacity out of operation.
In this context, Olexandr Mischenko expressed sincere gratitude to the Government of Poland and Polish society for their substantial and consistent support for Ukraine. He also highlighted the “Warmth for Kyiv” initiative, in which around 70,000 Polish citizens contributed over PLN 10 million. Thanks to this and other initiatives, generators, power plants, and other equipment necessary to support Ukraine’s energy system during the harsh winter are already being delivered.
The Polish side expressed condolences for the death of Ukrainian miners in the Dnipropetrovsk region following a Russian strike on a civilian bus. The Ukrainian diplomat informed his counterpart about ongoing international diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace, emphasizing Ukraine’s principled position on the preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The parties also noted a strong start to Ukrainian-Polish political dialogue in 2026 and confirmed their commitment to further intensify cooperation. Particular attention was given to the preparations for the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference (URC2026), scheduled for June 2026 in Gdansk.
In addition, the discussion focused on strengthening security and defense cooperation, particularly in the field of countering unmanned threats. Diplomats noted that Ukraine has unique practical experience in this area and is ready to further share it with Polish partners.
During his working visit to Warsaw, Deputy Minister Olexandr Mischenko also held meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian community and volunteer initiatives, recognizing their significant role in supporting Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing armed aggression.
The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the Uniters Foundation team for systematic humanitarian work aimed at meeting people’s food needs and for effective cooperation with civil society organizations and the business sector, emphasizing that such initiatives are an important element of social resilience during the war.
Olexandr Mischenko also thanked representatives of «Euromaidan-Warsaw» and the Stand with Ukraine Foundation for implementing the “Warmth from Poland for Kyiv” initiative, which made a substantial contribution to supporting the Ukrainian capital amid systematic Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. The parties discussed further areas of cooperation, including countering Russian disinformation and strengthening international solidarity with Ukraine.
During his stay in Warsaw, Olexandr Mischenko also met with senior students of the Warsaw Ukrainian School “SzkoUa”, delivering a public lecture on the specifics of Ukraine’s diplomatic service in wartime and the current state of Ukrainian-Polish relations. He stressed the importance of quality education and professional training of youth as key components of Ukraine’s development, emphasizing that the younger generation will play a decisive role in post-war reconstruction and in the practical implementation of Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration course.
