On 5 February, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha met with a delegation of the European Parliament Committee on Security and Defence, led by Chairperson Maria-Agnès Strack-Zimmermann.
The Minister thanked the members of the European Parliament for their consistent solidarity and unwavering support for Ukraine in repelling Russia’s full-scale aggression, as well as for the active role of the European Parliament in shaping a common European position in support of Ukraine.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the importance of further strengthening comprehensive pressure on the Russian Federation, including through the enhancement of the sanctions regime.
Andrii Sybiha emphasized the critical need for Ukraine to urgently receive additional air defense capabilities to protect the Ukrainian sky and civilian population.
The Minister called on the European Parliament to facilitate greater engagement of EU member states in joint projects under the European SAFE Instrument, highlighting Ukraine’s readiness not only to receive support but also to actively participate in joint production, procurement, and development of Europe’s defense capabilities.
"Ukraine is consistently pursuing the path of strengthening its strategic autonomy and sees itself as an integral part of the future European security architecture. Despite all challenges, we continue to move forward, enhancing our defense capabilities and contributing to Europe’s security. A strong Ukraine is the foundation of a stable and secure Europe,"Andrii Sybiha emphasized.
The Minister also underlined that Ukraine must receive reliable and legally binding security guarantees from its partners. He additionally noted that the inevitability of accountability for the Russian aggressor and ensuring compensation for damages caused to Ukraine are essential components of a future just and sustainable peace.
