On September 22, Deputy Foreign Minister (CDTO) Dmytro Senik held a video meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania Mbaruk Nassor Mbaruk in pursuance of Ukraine’s Foreign Policy Strategy for Intensifying Relations with African Countries.
This meeting became the first contact between the leadership of the Ministries of Foreign Affaires of Ukraine and Tanzania since the establishment of the diplomatic relations in 1992.
Dmytro Senik and Mbaruk Nassor Mbaruk discussed steps to revive political dialogue and expand educational cooperation. They have audited the draft bilateral agreements that are being worked out by the parties for signing in the near future.
A separate topic of conversation was the increase in trade and the implementation of joint projects.
"Ukraine and Tanzania have a huge potential for increasing bilateral trade, implementing joint projects in the fields of infrastructure, engineering, agriculture and tourism. Our State can also play an important role in ensuring food security in Tanzania"- stressed Dmytro Senik.
The Deputy Ministers agreed to organize the first Ukrainian business mission to Tanzania to establish direct business contacts and present profitable projects. The business mission will be organized through the Council of Exporters and Investors at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The diplomats also agreed to hold regular political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Tanzania.
For reference: according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the total trade in goods and services between Ukraine and Tanzania in 2020 amounted to USD 44.1 million. In the first half of 2021, it amounted to about USD 24 million.
