On October 14, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis met with Martin Briens, Secretary General of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, who was visiting Ukraine for the first time.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the peace process and the current security situation in Ukraine and the region, and exchanged assessments regarding existing and potential threats to European security posed by the Russian Federation.
In light of the intensified Russian attacks on Ukraine's civilian population and critical infrastructure, special attention was paid to further sanctions aimed at increasing pressure on the aggressor state. Yevhen Perebyinis briefed the French side on Ukraine's urgent needs regarding military assistance, the protection and restoration of critical infrastructure, and preparations for the heating season.
Ukraine's European integration and the implementation of necessary reforms were also a key focus of the talks. The parties discussed, in particular, the protection of national minority rights in Ukraine and ensuring the effective functioning of anti-corruption institutions. They welcomed the opening of the second and third negotiating clusters ahead of the meeting and expressed hope that the remaining clusters would be opened by the end of 2026.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue active political dialogue in both bilateral and multilateral formats.
