Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis held a meeting with Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Ukraine Adela Díaz Bernardes.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister thanked Spain for its consistent political, security, economic and humanitarian support for Ukraine, noted the upward trend in Ukrainian-Spanish contacts, and stressed the importance of maintaining this positive momentum. The interlocutors also exchanged views on current issues of bilateral relations and the international agenda.

The Deputy Foreign Minister informaed the Spanish side of Ukraine’s continued efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on international law and the UN Charter. In this context, the Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of a consolidated international stance and increased pressure on Russia.

Discussing the sanctions track, Yevhen Perebyinis thanked Spain for its support for EU sanctions packages and stressed the importance of further restricting Russia’s ability to finance its war, in particular by strengthening measures against its shadow fleet. The active position of Spain in developing mechanisms for the use of immobilized Russian sovereign assets for the benefit of Ukraine was also noted.

Considerable attention the sides paid to security and defence assistance. The Deputy Minister emphasized Ukraine’s critical need to strengthen its air and missile defence capabilities and noted the importance of continued military assistance from Spain.

Yevhen Perebyinis highly appreciated Spain’s practical assistance to Ukraine’s energy sector and underlined the need to strengthen such support in view of preparations for the winter period.

The Deputy Minister thanked Spain for its consistent support for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and expressed hope for its active engagement with EU Member States in this regard.
