Yevhen Perebyinis paid a working visit to Austria

On 21 June, 2024 during his working visit to the Republic of Austria, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis held talks with Secretary General for Foreign Affairs at the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria Nikolaus Marschik, Yevhen Perebyinis also met with Lucia Kronsteiner, Foreign Policy Advisor of the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, and MEPs from Austria - Thomas Weitz (Greens), Helmut Brandstetter (Liberal movement "NEOS") and Lukas Mandl (Austrian People's Party). 

During the meetings, Austrian representatives reaffirmed their continued support for Ukraine at the national and European levels in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity against Russian aggression.

During the talks, the parties discussed the continuation of assistance to Ukraine, in particular in the areas of humanitarian demining, restoration of energy infrastructure and reconstruction of the territories destroyed by Russian armed aggression. In this context, Vienna's latest decision was to allocate €10 million for humanitarian projects in Ukraine.

Particular attention was paid to discussing the outcome of the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, which, in the opinion of both sides, was the first successful step towards a just peace. In this regard, Yevhen Perebyinis noted the important role of Austria in further measures to implement the points of the Peace Formula of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. 

The Austrian side welcomed the decision to launch negotiations on the membership of Ukraine in the EU.

Yevhen Perebyinis noted that European integration is part of Ukraine's comprehensive strategy to defend itself against Russian aggression and confirmed Ukraine's seriousness in being a responsible partner in the negotiation process. In addition, the Deputy Minister informed the Austrian partners about Ukraine's current achievements in the reform process.

During the meeting with MEPs, special attention was drawn to the need to strengthen joint cooperation to counter Russian hybrid threats aimed at weakening Europe and European unity. In this regard, the importance of developing centres of Ukrainian studies on the basis of Austrian universities was noted.

In addition, Yevhen Perebyinis informed his Austrian counterparts about the situation on the frontline and stressed the importance of further military support from our partners, in particular with regard to air defence systems and other types of weapons.
