At the invitation of the Guatemalan side, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Melnyk visited the Republic of Guatemala to participate in the second round of political consultations at the level of Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Andrii Melnyk took part in a solemn ceremony chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Mario Flores Búcaro, "Call to Peace", dedicated to one year of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, during which the memory of the victims of the war in Ukraine was honored with a moment of silence.

Andrii Melnyk was received by Foreign Minister Mario Búcaro, who confirmed Guatemala's steadfast support for Ukraine and condemned Russia's unjustified invasion.

Deputy Foreign Minister thanked the Minister for the support of Ukraine, particularly for the recent decision of the Government of Guatemala to become the first Latin American country to join the Core Group for the creation of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression.

During the political consultations co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Melnyk and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala Roberto Palma Urzúa, the parties discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda, in particular the potential of economic cooperation. The parties paid special attention to discussing the practical implementation of Ukraine’s peace initiatives and the special role of Guatemala in Central America and international organizations.

The Deputy Minister also took part in the "Rose of Peace" ceremony at the National (Presidential) Palace.

During the visit, Andrii Melnyk met with the Chairman and members of the Committee on Foreign Relations. The participants noted the positive dynamics of the Ukrainian-Guatemalan interparliamentary dialogue and agreed on further ways of cooperation.
