Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha: "I had a productive trilateral call with my Norwegian and Canadian colleagues Espen Barth Eide and Anita Anand.
Our main focus was preparations for the upcoming International Conference on Returning Ukrainian Children, Detained Civilians, and Prisoners of War, which will be held in Canada.
We discussed how to make the conference as action-oriented as possible, strengthen international coordination and bring more countries and organizations into this work.
Bringing our people home is the first and most important step. But our responsibility does not end there. Those who return after captivity, illegal detention or deportation need support to recover, reunite with their families and rebuild their lives. And those responsible for these crimes must face targeted sanctions and accountability.
I also used this opportunity to raise two other urgent priorities with my colleagues. I briefed them on the consequences of Russia’s latest ballistic attack on Kyiv and stressed the urgent need to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense, particularly our protection against ballistic missiles.
We also discussed the deteriorating security situation in the Black Sea. Russia’s continued attacks on Ukrainian ports and civilian vessels threaten freedom of navigation, Ukraine’s economy, and global food security far beyond our region. Keeping the Black Sea open and safe for civilian shipping requires a strong and coordinated international response.
Grateful to Espen and Anita for their leadership, close coordination and determination to turn our joint efforts into concrete results".
