Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha: "I had a fruitful meeting with my Lithuanian colleague and friend Kęstutis Budrys. We discussed the outcomes of today's Foreign Affairs Council.
I thanked Kęstutis for Lithuania's extraordinary support and unwavering commitment, and for standing by Ukraine every day of Russia's full-scale war.
Ukraine's EU accession was at the centre of our discussion. We spoke about how Lithuania's upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU can help us make maximum progress in our accession negotiations. We aligned our approaches and agreed to work closely together to advance this shared goal.
We also discussed strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities and ensuring our people have all the means they need to protect themselves and defeat Russia's war machine.
Another key topic was preparing for winter amid Russia's continued attacks on critical infrastructure, including ways to strengthen Ukraine's energy resilience and secure the support it urgently needs.
We also addressed the need to keep tightening sanctions, close the loopholes Russia uses to sustain its war, and deepen its international isolation. We paid particular attention to fully using immobilised Russian assets for Ukraine's defence.
Lukashenka's Belarus poses a growing threat to Ukraine, the Baltic states, and wider Europe. This requires increased pressure on the regime in Minsk and a strategy to counter its destabilising activities.
Our countries are aligned on what must be done to strengthen Europe and why it matters. I look forward to continuing our work together, guided by our shared resolve to secure a lasting peace".
