The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba had a telephone conversation with the Head of Foreign Ministry of the Republic of the Sudan Omar Ismail.
Dmytro Kuleba confirmed the readiness of Ukraine for intensification of the mutually beneficial cooperation with the Sudan: «Ukraine hails the positive democratic transformations in the Sudan. The unique opportunity is opening now for starting up the new stage in Ukrainian-Sudanese relations. We are ready to intensify our bilateral interaction in political, trade and economic as well as humanitarian spheres».
Omar Ismail accepted the proposal of Dmytro Kuleba to hold shortly the next round of political consultations at the level of Deputy Ministers to discuss the practical steps towards the further development of bilateral relations.
The Head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry offered to send a trade mission of Ukraine to the Sudan for introducing Ukrainian business potential and to hold a joint Ukrainian-Sudanese business-forum in Khartoum.
The Foreign Ministers paid a special attention to the issue of constructive bilateral cooperation within the framework of international organization.
For reference: the most recent contact between foreign ministers of Ukraine and the Sudan was held in 2017.
In 2019 the bilateral trade turnover between Ukraine and the Sudan amounted to USD 56.252 million. Exports amounted to USD 55.094 mln. and imports – USD 1.158 mln. Positive balance for Ukraine is USD 53.9 mln. The volume of bilateral trade in the first 10 months of 2020 reached USD 65.35 mln. The Ukraine’s main exports to the Sudan are the products of agro-industrial sector.
