On September 18 Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held talks in the format of video conference.
"Relations between our countries have always developed in a friendly and constructive manner. I want the pace and tone of the dialogue to be maintained and developed. Turkmenistan holds a special place on our world map. We are ready to move forward politically and economically,” Dmytro Kuleba underlined.
Rashid Meredov invited the Ukrainian Minister to pay a visit to Ashgabat. Dmytro Kuleba gladly accepted the invitation and offered to hold a meeting of Ukrainian and Turkmen companies as part of the visit.
The Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan commended the complex high-tech infrastructure projects that Ukrainian companies have successfully implemented in Turkmenistan. The interlocutors highlighted the need to develop this cooperation as well as to look for new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation, in particular in the field of IT. Dmytro Kuleba emphasized that Ukraine is ready to take the cooperation of Ukrainian and Turkmen companies to a qualitatively new level.
The Foreign Ministers discussed further cooperation and mutual support of initiatives within international organizations. Dmytro Kuleba congratulated Turkmenistan on gaining observer status in the WTO.
The Ministers agreed to hold as soon as possible a meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Turkmen Commission on Economic, Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation.
The parties also discussed the steps needed to restore direct flights between Ukraine and Turkmenistan as well as cooperation between maritime administrations. The importance of developing alternative transport corridors was also noted.
The Ministers stressed the need to further encouraging Turkmen students to study in Ukraine, the development of medical tourism and rehabilitation in our country, the necessity to intensify cooperation in the field of culture.
The Ministers noted that the Ministries of Foreign Affairs have traditionally been the locomotives of Ukrainian-Turkmen relations and so it should be in the future.
During the video conference, Dmytro Kuleba and Rashid Meredov signed the Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan for 2020-2021.
