Deputy Minister Mariana Betsa met with a delegation of the Atlantic Council, a leading U.S. think tank specializing in international relations.
The delegation included John Herbst, Stephen Pifer, Stephen Sestanovich, Paul Stares, Catherine Spencer, Laura Cooper, and Robert Paduchik.
The parties discussed security situation in the context of Russian aggression, strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities, as well as issues of sanctions policy and energy security.
Mariana Betsa emphasized that peace in Ukraine must be comprehensive, just, and lasting, based on international law and respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
“Lasting peace requires effective security guarantees. Only consistent pressure on the aggressor and unity among partners can force Russia to take real steps toward peace,” the Deputy Minister noted.
The parties paid special attention to the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the field of security and defense.
They also discussed humanitarian issues, particularly the return of Ukrainian children illegally abducted by Russia.
Mariana Betsa thanked the Atlantic Council for its active support of Ukraine and emphasized the importance of maintaining the attention of the American political establishment and expert community on issues of countering Russian aggression and achieving a just and lasting peace.
