On 3 March, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Mariana Betsa participated in the presentation of the analytical study “Potential for Green Jobs in Ukraine: Integrating Ukrainian Veterans into the Green Economy,” developed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the NGO “Living Planet,” with the support of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The event was dedicated to the creation of "green" jobs for Ukrainian veterans and focused on the development of the green economy not only as an environmental priority, but also as a key instrument for Ukraine’s post-war economic recovery.
In her remarks, the Deputy Minister expressed the gratitude to foreign partners and, particularly, to the UN system agencies for their systematic support provided to Ukraine in overcoming the negative consequences of the Russian Federation's armed aggression, as well as for their contribution to the recovery and development of our country and the strengthening of Ukraine’s institutional capacity and its socio-economic potential.
"We are grateful for the UN's assistance in the humanitarian response. We also highly value the UN's efforts aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s economic potential, specifically through the creation of new jobs for Ukrainian veterans," Mariana Betsa stated.
According to the estimates of the UN study, the experience and skills of Ukrainian veterans could become a key driving force for the green transformation of Ukraine's economy. It is expected that they could fill approximately 15–20% of newly created "green" jobs and significantly contribute to the environmental transformation of such sectors as construction, forestry, logistics, agriculture, and humanitarian demining.
The Government of Ukraine’s vision regarding the further practical aspects of implementing this and other relevant UN initiatives was outlined by Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi and the Head of State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Anna Zamazeeva, who also participated in the event.
