On May 27 Ukrainian-Swiss political consultations took place in Kyiv chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko and Head of the Eurasia Division of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Muriel Peneveyre.
At the beginning of the meeting, Olexandr Mischenko and Muriel Peneveire laid flowers at the Wall of Remembrance of those who died for Ukraine and honored the memory of our country's defenders. The head of the Swiss delegation also expressed her sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed during the recent large-scale Russian attack.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda, including political dialogue, economic cooperation, support for Ukraine's reconstruction, humanitarian demining, digital transformation, as well as current international and security challenges.
Olexandr Mischenko expressed gratitude to Switzerland for its comprehensive support in countering Russian aggression, in particular financial, economic and humanitarian assistance, as well as for hosting the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland in 2024.
During the conversation, the parties exchanged views on finding ways to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine and the whole of Europe, coordinating this process with partners, and bringing Russia to justice for its crimes.
Special attention was paid to cooperation in the implementation of projects for the recovery of Ukraine. The interlocutors discussed ways to intensify the participation of the Swiss private sector, including the need to create the necessary conditions for their wider involvement.
The Ukrainian side also reaffirmed its interest in expanding cooperation with Switzerland in the field of mine action, continuing partner involvement in the implementation of the humanitarian initiatives “Grain from Ukraine” and “Food from Ukraine”, as well as the participation of a high-level Swiss delegation in this year's the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the issue of returning Ukrainian children deported or forcibly displaced by Russia is a priority for Ukraine and called on Switzerland to actively engage in the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children.
The parties emphasized the importance of continuing bilateral partnership in the fields of education, science, and innovation.
Additionally, the delegations discussed further cooperation between the two countries within the framework of multilateral platforms, including in view of the Swiss OSCE Chairmanship in 2026.
Muriel Peneveyre emphasized that despite the country’s neutral status, from the very beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the Swiss position has been clear – Switzerland supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. She also assured continued Swiss participation in the implementation of a number of important humanitarian initiatives in Ukraine.
