25 February 2025 20:22

On 25 February, bilateral political consultations were held under the chairmanship of Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko and Deputy Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Jan Marian to discuss a wide range of topics of bilateral relations, regional security and other key areas of cooperation.

In the face of challenges and threats posed by Russia's armed aggression to the region as a whole, the Parties paid attention to cooperation in the military-technical sphere and strengthening of Ukraine's defense capabilities, integration of our country into the EU and NATO, promotion of Ukraine's interests in regional alliances and within international organizations.

Olexandr Mischenko thanked the Czech partners for their continued political support in achieving a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace for our country. He emphasized the need to strengthen the dialogue of all allies of Ukraine and preserve unity in defense of democratic values and principles of international law in the current geopolitical realities.

The Czech Republic's efforts to ensure social support and equal opportunities in the labour market for our citizens who have found refuge in the Czech Republic were noted. The Czech side, in turn, positively assessed the contribution of Ukrainian citizens to the Czech economy.

Interest was expressed in the participation of Czech officials in a number of international events, including the URC2025 Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome and the Ukraine Mine Action Conference (UMAC) 2025 in Tokyo. In this context, the contribution of the Czech Republic to the financing and implementation of projects for the restoration of Ukraine was highly commended.

The Parties agreed on the importance of bringing the Russian Federation to justice for committing war crimes and shelling critical infrastructure in Ukraine, in particular by increasing pressure on the aggressor country's economy within the framework of the next EU sanctions packages, using frozen Russian assets for the purposes of restoring Ukraine, and expanding restrictive measures against Russian individuals and legal entities at the national level. The Parties also discussed the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

During the consultations, the Parties exchanged views on official contacts and meetings of governmental and inter-parliamentary cooperation bodies for 2025, including a number of high-level visits. It was agreed to hold Ukrainian-Czech consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers on a regular basis.
