Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko held a meeting with National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia Airis Rikveilis.
During the talks, the Ukrainian diplomat expressed gratitude to Latvia for its consistent political, security and humanitarian support to Ukraine since the beginning of Russian aggression in 2014, as well as for its active position in mobilizing international assistance to our state after the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in 2022.
The parties discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of security and defense, in particular, the further development of cooperation within the framework of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), as well as the prospects for the implementation of joint defense-industrial projects. Separately, the parties noted the importance of Ukraine’s practical experience in countering Russian aggression for strengthening the defense capabilities of partner states.
In this context, Airis Rikveilis informed about the preparations for the international “Drone Summit” to be held in Riga in May, dedicated to the development of unmanned technologies, the defense industry and the coordination of international support for Ukraine.
The parties paid special attention to the discussion of existing and potential threats to European security from Russia, as well as possible areas of cooperation in the field of countering Russian disinformation and propaganda. The parties confirmed their common interest in further strengthening the coordination of efforts in the international arena with the aim of restoring a just and sustainable peace.
