A meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Olexandr Mischenko and the Ambassadors of the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, and the Republic of Estonia took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to discuss regional security issues and the development of bilateral cooperation.
Olexandr Mischenko expressed sincere gratitude to the Baltic states for their unwavering solidarity and leadership in providing defense assistance. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of the Baltic leaders' participation in the events held in Kyiv on February 24, as well as the recent decisions by the governments of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia to allocate new packages of military and financial support to Ukraine.
In the context of developing practical military cooperation, the parties discussed the preparations for an upcoming training event within the framework of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), which will take place in Latvia in the near future. The importance of involving representatives of Ukraine's defense sector in these exercises was emphasized, as it will allow Ukraine to share its unique combat experience in the use of unmanned systems, countering hybrid threats, and the development of tactical medicine.
"Joint efforts in analyzing modern challenges and the direct exchange of combat experience are critically important for ensuring the stability of the Baltic region. Our state is committed to active cooperation to enhance the operational capabilities and interoperability of the armed forces of our partner countries, particularly through the mechanisms of the JEF Enhanced Partnership," stressed Olexandr Mischenko.
The participants paid significant attention to the issue of nuclear safety, particularly in the context of Russia's ongoing illegal occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to further coordinated engagement in this area. The Deputy Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to the Baltic partners for their principled and consistent support of Ukraine within the IAEA.
The parties agreed to consistently strengthen their security partnership and consolidate efforts in defending shared European values.
For reference: The Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) is a UK-led multinational coalition of ten nations. In May 2025, Ukraine was granted "Enhanced Partnership" status, which envisages the deepening of cooperation in the security and defense sphere.
