On November 27, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko held a meeting with Ambassador of Spain to Ukraine Ricardo López-Aranda Jagu.
Olexandr Mischenko thanked Spain for its unconditional support of Ukraine and comprehensive assistance from the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
Ricardo López-Aranda Jagu assured that Ukraine can continue to count on Spain in its struggle for the restoration of its territorial integrity and confirmed Spain’s determination to provide necessary assistance in accordance with the bilateral Agreement on Security Cooperation.
In this regard, the Deputy Minister announced Ukraine’s critical needs in weapons and military equipment, especially for the strengthening of its air defense.
There was an exchange of views on the implementation of the Peace Formula and the Victory Plan, which is designed to strengthen Ukraine and increase the cost of aggression for Russia. In this respect, Olexandr Mischenko thanked Spain for its proactive position in engaging Latin American, Asian and African states in this process.
The special attention was paid to other priority issues for Ukraine as European and Euro-Atlantic Integration. Olexandr Mischenko stressed the importance of inviting Ukraine to join NATO, what is the first point of the Victory Plan and will become reliable security guarantees. The Spanish Ambassador emphasized the unchanging position of official Madrid regarding support for Ukraine's course towards NATO membership.
The interlocutors also focused on the participation of Spain in the recovery of Ukraine, in particular its energy infrastructure severely damaged by Russian attacks, as well as on further strengthening of sanctions pressure on the aggressor and blocking Russia's ways to circumvent sanctions.
The parties agreed to further maintain regular contacts at all levels in order to strengthen even more traditionally friendly relations between Ukraine and Spain.
