Sergiy Kyslytsya held a meeting with Japanese Ambassador Masashi Nakagome
18 June 2025 12:43

On June 17 First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Sergiy Kyslytsya, held a meeting with Masashi Nakagome, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine.

During the meeting, the First Deputy Minister drew particular attention to the results of the latest barbaric attack by the Russian Federation on Ukraine, which primarily affected Kyiv on the night of June 17, stressing that such actions must receive a proper and resolute response from the world.

Sergiy Kyslytsya called for increased assistance to Ukraine in exercising its right to self-defense and, at the same time, increased pressure on Russia to force it to stop its aggression and embark on the path to comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace.

The First Deputy Minister stressed that in this context, the role of the G7 countries is important, whose summit in Kananaskis, Canada (June 15-17) is an opportunity to coordinate a joint decisive response to such actions by the aggressor.

Sergiy Kyslytsya also informed the Ambassador about Ukraine's ongoing efforts to end Russian aggression through diplomatic means. It was emphasized that, despite Ukraine's support on March 11 for the US proposal for a complete and unconditional 30-day ceasefire, Russia continues to demonstrate its unwillingness to do so and remains the only obstacle to peace. Russia understands only the language of force, and therefore, there is no alternative to further increasing pressure on the aggressor state and its allies to deprive Moscow of the opportunity to continue this aggressive war.

The First Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to Japan for its consistent support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for our country's international initiatives.

Ambassador Masashi Nakagome confirmed Japan's unwavering support for Ukraine and its commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
