Ukraine and Moldova held political consultations at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers
18 June 2025 14:31

On June 18, political consultations between Ukraine and Moldova took place in Kyiv, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko and Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Sergiu Mihov.

At the beginning of the meeting, Olexandr Mischenko and members of the Moldovan delegation laid flowers at the Wall of Remembrance of Fallen in the name of Ukraine and honored the memory of the defenders of our country.

During the consultations the parties discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda, including the further development of political dialogue, sectoral cooperation, and the legal framework development.

The interlocutors paid special attention to regional and international security, as well as countering hybrid threats posed by the Russian Federation.

Olexandr Mischenko expressed gratitude to Moldova for its unwavering solidarity with the people of Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression, for its political and diplomatic support on international platforms, and for providing humanitarian assistance. The Deputy Minister emphasized that in the current geopolitical conditions, support from neighboring states is crucial for establishing a just and sustainable peace.

In light of Russia’s threats of interference in the internal political situation in the Republic of Moldova ahead of the autumn parliamentary elections, the parties exchanged views on further steps to counter Russian disinformation.

The parties also discussed cooperation within the framework of the Ukraine-Moldova-Romania triangle, particularly the outcomes of the presidential meeting of three countries in Odesa on June 11, as well as preparations for upcoming events at the level of heads of government and foreign ministers. The Moldovan side positively noted Ukraine's initiative to create a trilateral cyber alliance.

Discussing the Euro-integration prospects of Ukraine and Moldova, the parties emphasized that EU membership is a civilizational choice for both countries, and the bilateral Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of European integration signed in February 2025 will facilitate practical interaction and the exchange of experiences between the negotiating teams of both states in talks with the European Commission.

Ukraininan side assured that Moldova can continue to count on Ukraine's full support in the process of resolving the Transnistrian conflict, emphasizing the need to review the "5+2" negotiation format, which should not include the aggressor country, as well as the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.

The parties agreed to make joint efforts to develop bilateral border infrastructure, in particular international transport and logistics corridors, as well as to strengthen energy security by diversifying energy supply sources to both countries.

The interlocutors also paid attention to cooperation in the consular sphere, which is expected to be facilitated by upcoming consultations at the level of the foreign ministries of both countries.

From a positive perspective, the parties noted cooperation within international organizations and agreed on further coordination of relevant interactions.
