On December 9, 2020, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Yevhenii Yenin, received copies of credentials from the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to Ukraine (with residence in Warsaw), Mrs. Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz.
Yevhenii Yenin congratulated Ambassador Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz on the beginning of her diplomatic mission in Ukraine and stressed upon the readiness of our state to develop mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, the sides discussed key issues of the bilateral agenda. Ukraine is ready to strengthen cooperation with the Philippines, especially in the trade, economic, military, technical and humanitarian sphere. The Deputy Minister thanked the Philippines for a consistent support of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The parties paid particular attention to the discussion of Ukraine's initiatives within the ASEAN, namely the accession to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and the establishment of the ASEAN’s Committee in Ukraine as well.
Yevhenii Yenin also announced the parties' intention to hold a number of bilateral events in 2021, including political consultations at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers, a business forum, and to consider the possibility to organize the visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to Manila.
In addition, the sides discussed the issue of visa liberalization between the two countries.
