On 13 June, 2024 First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha held a meeting with Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Ukraine Ricardo López-Aranda Jagu.
Andrii Sybiha thanked Spain for its unconditional support of Ukraine and comprehensive assistance from the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. The First Deputy Minister noted the importance of the bilateral Security Cooperation Agreement, signed during the official visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Madrid on May 27.
Ricardo López-Aranda Jagu assured that Ukraine can continue to count on Spain in its struggle for the restoration of territorial integrity. In this regard, the parties discussed in detail further steps to strengthen the capabilities of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine.
Special attention was paid to the preparations of the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland and the importance of the broadest possible attendance of countries from all continents was emphasized. In this regard, Andrii Sybiha expressed gratitude for the efforts of Spain in advocating participation in the Summit among the states of Latin America, Asia and Africa, as well as for the decision of President of the Government of Spain Pedro Sánchez to personally attend the Summit.
The parties also discussed the issues of priority for Ukraine on the European and Euro-Atlantic tracks, as well as the participation of Spain and Spanish business in the recovery of Ukraine. The interlocutors agreed to keep regular contacts at all levels in order to further strengthen the traditionally friendly relations between Ukraine and Spain.
