Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Melnyk paid a visit to Belize, which became the first visit of a Ukrainian high-ranking official in the history of Ukraine-Belize bilateral relations.
During the meeting with the Head of the Office of the Prime Minister of Belize Leslie Stewart, the Ukrainian diplomat informed the Belize side about the devastating consequences of Russia’s year-long full-scale armed invasion of Ukraine, and the war that Russia has been waging against our country for over nine years.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine was received by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Immigration of Belize Eamon Courtenay, who emphasized the solidarity of Belize with the Ukrainian people, strongly condemned the illegal and unprovoked aggression of the Russian Federation, and assured of the readiness of the Government of Belize to be involved in the process of bringing the Russian Federation to justice for the crimes committed.
Andrii Melnyk and Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Immigration of Belize Amalia Mai held the first round of political consultations in the implementation of Memorandum between the MFA of Ukraine and the MFA Belize of September 23, 2022, establishing the mechanism of political consultations. The parties discussed a range of issues on the bilateral agenda and ways of intensifying cooperation in the framework of international organizations.
Andrii Melnyk held a press conference for the leading Belizean media, during which he thanked the Government and the people of Belize for their unwavering support from the first days of the Russian war against Ukraine and emphasized the importance of Belize's participation in the implementation of President V.olodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula, as well as the imposition of sanctions against Russian business.
