08 October 2026 17:58

On 8 October, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko paid a working visit to Chișinău, during which he participated in the Third Moldova Security Forum (MSF-2026) and held meetings with Minister of Defence of the Republic of Moldova Anatolie Nosatîi and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Valeriu Mija.

During the meeting with Minister of Defence Anatolie Nosatîi, the discussions focused on developing Ukrainian-Moldovan cooperation in the security and defence sectors, deepening practical cooperation between the relevant institutions of the two countries, and strengthening capabilities to counter contemporary threats.

The sides discussed the security implications of Russia's aggression for the region, particularly threats related to the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, airspace violations and hybrid operations. They emphasised the need to strengthen coordination between Ukraine and Moldova to ensure timely responses to common security challenges.

Olexandr Mischenko thanked the Moldovan side for its practical support to Ukraine in humanitarian demining, particularly for organising training for Ukrainian deminers. Minister of Defence Anatolie Nosatîi reaffirmed Moldova's readiness to continue providing such assistance.

During the meeting with State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Valeriu Mija, the sides discussed current issues on the Ukrainian-Moldovan bilateral agenda, the regional security situation, joint efforts to counter hybrid threats, the Transnistrian settlement process, cross-border cooperation, and the European integration of Ukraine and Moldova.

Particular attention was paid to the implications of Russia's aggression against Ukraine for Moldova's security, including repeated violations of its airspace, the protection of critical infrastructure and energy security. In this context, the sides stressed the importance of the timely exchange of information and enhanced coordination between the relevant authorities of both countries.

Valeriu Mija reaffirmed the Republic of Moldova's unwavering support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, both bilaterally and within international organisations, platforms and initiatives.

Olexandr Mischenko expressed gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Moldova for the energy assistance provided to Ukraine amid systematic Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, as well as for its support for Ukrainian citizens who had been forced to leave Ukraine as a result of Russian aggression and found refuge in Moldova.

The interlocutors devoted particular attention to European integration, emphasising the importance of Ukraine and Moldova advancing jointly and in a coordinated manner towards membership of the European Union, as well as providing mutual support along this path.

Following the consultations, the sides agreed to further deepen bilateral cooperation across a range of areas of mutual interest.

An important part of the working visit was Olexandr Mischenko's participation in the Third Moldova Security Forum, where he emphasised the need to preserve international unity in countering Russian aggression, strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities, and deepen security partnerships among European countries.

The Deputy Minister underscored that, by defending its independence and territorial integrity, Ukraine is simultaneously making a direct contribution to the security of Europe as a whole, while its practical experience in countering Russian aggression is of significant value to international partners.

The working visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of Ukraine and Moldova to further strengthening political dialogue, developing practical cooperation in security and defence, energy security and countering hybrid threats, as well as coordinating efforts towards membership of the European Union.
