On December 22, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Sergiy Kyslytsya met with Chrystia Freeland, Special Representative of the Government of Canada for the Reconstrucion of Ukraine. The parties discussed Canada's participation in Ukraine's recovery, further support for our state, and coordination of efforts with international partners.
Sergiy Kyslytsya expressed gratitude to Canada for its unwavering solidarity with Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian Federation's full-scale aggression. He noted Canada's significant contribution to strengthening the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
During the meeting, the parties paid considerable attention to Ukraine's energy security and resilience against the backdrop of intensified Russian missile strikes on our country's infrastructure.
The Ukrainian side informed about the start of preparations for the Ukraine Recovery Conferenece (URC2026) in Poland, expressed hope for Canada's participation in this event, and stressed the importance of involving Canadian companies in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
In the context of the peace process, the parties reaffirmed their shared position on the need to achieve a just and lasting peace based on international law and the UN Charter, with reliable security guarantees for Ukraine. They separately noted the importance of further coordinating steps to increase sanctions pressure on Russia in order to weaken its ability to finance and continue the war.
